Abstract :
In response to the Advanced Safety Vehicle Project Phase 2 (ASV-2) proposed by Japanese Ministry of Transport, we worked on the following two research projects while checking our findings against the data obtained from traffic accident fact-finding analyses, and we fabricated two experimental vehicles for validating the objectives of each of our research projects. (i) Research on reducing driver load and rear-end collision, a project designed to compensate for recognition and judgement errors, using radar and CCD camera technology as driving assistance (Honda ASV-2 experimental vehicle 1). (ii) Research on protecting the vulnerable parties in traffic accidents, detecting and providing information on the presence of motorcycles and pedestrians (Honda ASV-2 experimental vehicle 2). As a result of the research conducted, we have come to the conclusion that results of our research can be expected to exert a positive effect on reducing accidents
