Abstract
The goal of the VXI bus specification is to define a usable instrumentation standard, based on the VME bus, open to all manufacturers. It is based on the industry standard VME bus. VXI itself is an abbreviation for VME bus extensions for instrumentation. The VXI bus has all the capabilities of its precursor, the IEEE-488 bus, as well as extra features and functionality which allow test systems of much greater versatility to be built. VXI products are now being produced by a number of the major Test and Measurement manufacturers, and VXI looks set to become the instrument bus standard for the foreseeable future
