Abstract
On low quantity production, constraints are based around development monies and because the designer is prevented from adopting the feasibility study, prototype, production route of a development program the ultimate design will be right rather than optimum. the control of the costs of the system rest with close liaison between the engineers with a mutual understanding of each others problems and a commitment to the projects success, rather than the success of any particular aspect to the detriment of others. In the particular example used, the mechanical design of the frame was based upon the understanding that the dish weight and pannier weight was not frozen so the author assumed a heavier weight than was forecast so that the design would be finalised within the project programme with no extra costs. This approach was adopted throughout the project
