  • Abstract
The Advanced Microwave Sounder Unit (AMSU) is a 20-channel microwave radiometer system that is being developed for a series of polar orbiting weather satellites. The authors describe the AMSU-B instrument which uses a parabolic mirror of 22 cm aperture and operates at 89, 157 and 183.3 GHz. The high-frequency subsystem (HFSS) design, the development of low-noise GaAs Schottky diode mixers, noise temperature performance, the HFSS beamwaist and radiation patterns, and the phase locked Gunn oscillators are outlined
