Abstract
The laser-addressed smectic liquid crystal light valve (LSLV) provides a unique display technology for computer generated graphics and imaging. It acts as an editable and erasable medium onto which computer generated images or data may be written. The smectic liquid crystal cell requires only minimal energy to be written, but can in turn, modulate an intense beam of light such as a xenon arc lamp-hence the term light valve. The Greyhawk Softplot design makes it possible to generate and edit a bright, full colour, large screen image that may be viewed comfortably under normal office lighting conditions
