Abstract
Summary form only given. The author aims to recap on the basic and practical requirements of power system representations, computer studies and network modelling on power system simulation together with associated operator training needs. Emerging from these factors are the parameters which become the key elements in planning and operating the power system, namely frequency, voltage, fault levels, stability, harmonic levels, and transmission and generating plant parameters. Specifically the analysis of system security and integrity together with system and operator reaction to system incidents is addressed. The evaluation of risks and consequences is also considered
