Abstract :
With the increasingly sophisticated electronics on vehicles and elsewhere there is plenty of scope for the construction of light rapid transit (LRT) systems that are adversely affected by their environment and that affect other systems. Electromagnetic compatibility is not something that can be added at the end of the job; it has to be designed in from the start. The key to successful EMC is to recognise the need for an EMC strategy when the project is conceived and to ensure that it is handled as one of the engineering interfaces. As with most interfaces there is no substitute for an experienced systems engineer who treats the LRT as a total system. Merely adopting a specification from another field, however good, is unlikely to be successful
