Title :
Two-component video coding for packet networks
Author_Institution :

Abstract :
Two-component coding of video signals based on conditional replenishment (CR) for packet networks is described. The type of network is assumed to be an Orwell slotted ring, where transmission of certain packets is guaranteed. The coder produces two component bit streams; the first bit stream contains all the important structural information of the conditionally replenished video data and is accommodated in the guaranteed capacity of the network. The second output is transmitted through the variable bit rate (VBR) channel of the network, which if received improves picture quality. Using CIF standard pictures, the performance of the coder is compared with that of the conventional CR coder for various packet loss rates
