Abstract
The paper deals with two-tier multiple choice tests working as a reliable tool for students\´ evaluation. The test was applied within the engineering education in the foreign language instruction at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, University of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic. The multiple choice tests are often considered easier to pass even if the level of respondent\´s knowledge is low, and the reached result thus does not reflect the knowledge adequately. Two hypotheses were set to verify whether learners reach higher test scores in translations in comparison to multiple choice tests and to multiple choice tests with feedback. Under some conditions of "good luck in guessing" the correct answer might influence the test result to some extent.
