Abstract :
A set of basic design guidelines for impulse or hybrid surge generators are established. PSPICE is used to determine the interaction between the generator´s passive components and the load being tested. Different standardized testing waveforms are then modeled using this computer based tool. The simulations are utilized to obtain similar results as with the mathematical formulation presented in international standards. Currently, we are building a hybrid surge generator in the power research laboratory at FIU. As a starting point, we are using the results obtained from several PSPICE simulations
