Abstract
When a generating set is started it is not normally possible to parallel the generator with another set or power system by closing the generator circuit breaker immediately. A number of parameters need to be monitored and controlled before the breaker may close. The author looks at microprocessor-based automatic synchronisers can control and monitor these parameters. They may also produce a governor urge pulse, a power take-up pulse and carry out super/sub synchronising
