Abstract
Satellite news gathering and the live coverage of sporting and political events demands real-time screening. This is achieved using a range of transportable earth stations. The national broadcaster wishing to cover events within national boundaries may adopt a 3.5 m road transportable. This transportable radiates sufficient EIRP to saturate the transponder leading to a high performance system when operating to a medium size receiving earth station. These transportables are characterised by the integration of the aerial and the radio cabin on a single chassis. For newsmen wishing to carry their satellite terminal as luggage the 1.5 m Fly Away terminal offers this facility. The Fly Away terminal has become very popular due to the fact that it can be rapidly deployed in support of the electronic news gathering and outside broadcast teams
