Abstract :
An important pre-processing step in shallow marine siesmic experiments involves compensation for source heave component in the received records. An approach using Kalman filtering relies on the availability of a model for the heave process. Identifying the parameters of this model is the subject of this paper. The paper discusses formulation of the problem of optimal parameter estimation of the heave response model. This is based on the available frequency response record of the heave process. The problem resolves to that of solving a set of nonlinear equations. Newton-Raphson method is proposed to solve the resulting equations. Computational results pertaining to some field data are given to illustrate the process.
