  • Abstract
An introduction to the numerical modeling session is presented. The theme of the session will be the interaction of ocean and acoustical physics. Topics to be discussed are basic acoustic models and their input requirements, numerical prediction of the thermodynamic and dynamic ocean processes and the required experimental oceanographic inputs necessary for an adequate ocean forecast. Satellite remote sensing techniques will then be discussed in the context of providing inputs to the ocean numerical modeling effort. Papers following these presentations will then concentrate on some of the latest results in the field of acoustic propagation, noise and signal processing methods. Almost all of this work has been sponsored by U. S. Navy interests and the final presentation will be concerned with how these models can and are being used by the Navy.
