Abstract :
IEEE 802.16e is an emerging standard for mobile wireless broadband access systems. In any mobile networks, power saving is one of the most important features for the extension of devices´ lifetime. In this paper, we introduce the sleep-mode operation of IEEE 802.16e and parameters related to this operation. Then, we adapt these parameters according to different traffic types for efficient power saving. For CBR traffic, by setting a proper initial-sleep window size, the maximum delay can be guaranteed while saving the average power consumption. For FTP traffic, by sleeping during queue-empty periods, the throughput performance is barely sacrificed while efficient power saving is accomplished
