Abstract
The results of a preliminary evaluation of the prototype Coast Guard Short Range Recovery (SRR) Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) system conducted by the U.S.Coast Guard Research and Development Center (R&D Center) are discussed. The performance of the SRR FLIR in detecting 15- to 19- foot (5- to 6- meter) boats, 4- and 7- man life rafts, and simulated persons in the water (PIWs) during a controlled detection experiment in Block Island Sound is analyzed.
