Abstract :
Wave data collected during ARSLOE at distances 3, 6, 12 and 34 km offshore are used to examine the growth of wind waves with fetch. Nondimensional energy, \\bar{E} , and peak frequency, \\bar{f}m , are computed and related to nondimensional fetch, \\bar{X} , for a variety of windspeed and atmospheric stability cases. Relations for \\bar{E} vs \\bar{X} , \\bar{f}_{m} vs \\bar{X} , and \\bar{E} vs \\bar{f}m are compared to those reported in the literature. The JONSWAP equations are found to be appropriate, despite the presence of significant swell.
