Abstract :
The amplitudes, phases, and positions of the radiating elements of a non-uniformly spaced array which produce a 50% bandwidth csc/sup 2/ shaped beam pattern are found by an iterative search over constrained space. Implementation of the design in an overlay coupled stripline end fire array with broad band phase shifters is discussed. In addition to its broad bandwidth, the design discussed in this paper compared to conventional designs with uniform spacing has greater than or equal to aperture efficiency, less pattern ripple, less element-to-element magnitude and phase variation, and less power delivered to the load.
