Abstract
A compression/based thinning algorithm is presented. In this algorithm, the skeleton of a binary image is obtained through an optimal thresholding and compression process. Connectedness of the skeletons has been preserved through the application of a set of 42 different masks. Issues relating to efficient algorithm implementation on a multiprocessor system are discussed. Its evaluation based on experimental results and quality of skeletonized images is also used
