  • Abstract
The BBC has been using automation for some long time and in many ways the normal process of introducing new equipment over the years could be designated in this way. With regard to cameras, BBC television news has used remotely controlled cameras since 1962 both in its main studio for news bulletins and later to control cameras and lighting in remote studies such as Westminster and Broadcasting House. The BBC transmit the 1 O´Clock, 6 O´Clock and 9 O´Clock New programmes as well as hourly daytime bulletins, Newsround and weekend bulletins using remotely controlled cameras. These have the facility to be panned, tilted, zoomed, focussed and in some cases to adjust pedestal height
