Abstract :
This paper analyzes the characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) cells under various weather conditions. Mostly, the PV cells are non-linear in nature, whose characteristics and the maximum power point varies with irradiance and temperature. Here the solar cells are cascaded to form a photovoltaic array or otherwise solar panel according to the power requirement. It has a unique operating point at which the power is maximum. To track the particular operating point of the solar array, photovoltaic power system generally requires a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller and the buck converter. In this paper, on the basis of studying mathematical models of PV cell, the maximum power point is tracked using Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). Because the operating point varies from time to time for various weather conditions, the efficient FLC is developed to track the maximum power point at a faster rate. The MATLAB/Simulink is used in this paper to establish a model of photovoltaic system with MPPT function. The overall system is developed by combining the models of established solar module and DC-DC converter.
