Abstract
The increasing density and complexity of hybrid circuits calls for an alternative type of substrate to fill the new expanding requirements. As the result of the development trends, research works are already being conducted in the field of novel substrates which include aluminium nitride (AIN), silicon carbide (SiC), insulated metal substrate, glass ceramic metal substrate and anodised aluminium. The purposes of this paper are firstly to compare properties of alternative substrates which are, at present, at different levels of development. Secondly to outline the objectives of one research project on anodised aluminium alloys
