Abstract :
The National Ocean Survey (NOS) of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has had the opportunity to apply the science of photogrammetry to various ocean surveying projects. The unique capabilities of the NOS Analytical Plotter (NOSAP) was paramount in utilizing the submarine photography associated with these projects. A look at these projects reveals some different photogrammetric problems and demonstrates the potential of analytical plotters to this type of short-range photogrammetry. A close look at the geometry and control of the underwater photographic systems used indicates areas where improvements could be made to utilize the power of NOSAP and other comparable analytical plotters.
