Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to review the main issues of the new educational standards for engineering programs in Russia, to consider the key competences of the engineering graduates and to imply the importance of the communicative competence for the future engineers. This study shows the experience of Siberian Federal University in creating the language learning environment in the university community, which encourages students to fine-tune their communication skills as these skills are of growing importance in the engineering workplace nowadays.
