Abstract
The aim of this paper is to examine how and why quality management control systems are changing under the influence of increasing product variety and shortening product life cycles. For this purpose a novel application of Simons´ four levers of control model is used in two case studies at European automotive manufacturers. This approach towards quality management seems to have potential. However, the methodology needs to be developed further to increase scientific and managerial relevance.
