  • Abstract
The dynamic behaviors of disk spindle assembly are of great influence on the track per inch capacity of hard disk drives. As the problem is structurally complex, it is usually investigated using experimental methods or linearized simulation models. This paper presents studies of the problem using a numerical approach. In particular, vibration analysis of disk spindle assembly with hydrodynamic bearings was performed using an efficient component mode synthesis based approach. The underlying technique is seen to be effective and useful in predicting the coupled natural frequencies and mode shapes of the disk spindle assembly vibration, especially for high speed recording and new material applications.
