Abstract :
Converge-east nature of traffic pattern in WSNs is an imbalanced pattern and so the position of the nodes which carry the highest level of traffic is very effective and hence forms the network bottleneck. In this paper the effects of node positions on the performance of wireless sensor network is considered. The performance of a wireless sensor network for two types of node distribution over the area, Uniform and Zipf distribution are analyzed. It is shown that the density of nodes which are distributed according to Zips distribution is proportion to their hop far from the sink node. So this idea solves the problem of heavy traffic forwarding by the closest nodes to the sink. Additionally in this paper an accurate queueing analysis of a wireless sensor network and its traffic characterization is proposed. The numerical results show that a wireless sensor network with Zipf distribution works more efficiently than a uniform WSN.
