Abstract :
Certain remote loads or industrial economical conditions favour the use of local generation to cogenerate electric power to cover the needs for industry. While local generation is justifiable, an industrial power system can further be enhanced to counter the severe cases of loss of generation within the utility. The energy balance is achieved through the automatic means of load shedding which is known to be the easiest and fastest way to restore the balance between the system loads and the remaining generation. However, a successful scheme can only be realised through proper studies for the dynamics of the power system and the associated relaying equipment. The latter is best achieved through digital frequency relaying which monitors the discrete linear and/or the rate of change of power system frequency
