Abstract
The introduction of the Bluetooth wireless technology represented a long-awaited breath by offering short-range radio communication to replace the cumbersome cable connections for mobile devices. In this paper, we propose a new ring structure for Bluetooth scatternets, the defined option for local area networks (LANs). This new ring topology, called ring of masters (ROM), opens the possibility for achieving more robust Bluetooth networks through decentralized control and smaller number of hops, together with dynamic allocation of time slots according to network conditions. We present the different characteristics of ROM and use a number of performance criteria to compare it to other proposed scatternet topologies.
