Abstract
The relative newness of the field means that industrial experience with expert systems relate mostly to the earlier stages of the system life-cycle. For convenience these are listed under two categories. The first is Orientation, which covers the way in which the project is set up initially. The second category covers Development of the expert system. The points given cover some of the more obvious results of experience under these two categories, presented in the form of hints to developers of future industrial expert systems
