Abstract :
A 16 channel subcarrier multiplexed video broadcast system has been designed at BTRL to provide a picture quality of 50 dB SNR (weighted) for distribution to 16 customers, from a single 1500 nm headend laser source, via a passive optical network. This is the first reported demonstration of a subcarrier system designed for operation at 1500 nm. The laboratory demonstrator is a prototype of a system which will be implemented as an overlay service in the forthcoming BT local loop field trial to be held at Bishops Stortford in 1990
