Abstract
FM subcarrier schemes are shown to give a significant sensitivity advantage over AM subcarrier schemes in optical fibre video transmission systems, however, their channel multiplexing capacity within a given receiver bandwidth is about one third that of the AM schemes. Direct detection FM is shown to give a better sensitivity and channel multiplexing capacity than certain coherent detection schemes. Digital video transmission is shown to give a similar sensitivity and channel multiplexing capacity as FM with direct and heterodyne detection alike
