  • Abstract
Using the TMS320C25 digital signal processor, the authors constructed a real-time phoneme-based all syllable synthesis system. The perception of the place of articulation in nasal consonants was studied. This formant synthesis system has two features: several dynamic control models suited for Chinese speech synthesis have been adopted to improve speech quality, and the phonemes are used as the basic synthesis units, which reduces the storage space of the speech parameter. Experimental results obtained by the speech analyzing system and listening tests indicate that the speech quality synthesized by phonemes is rather close to that synthesized by syllables with high intelligibility and naturalness
