Abstract
The solution to the lossless inverse scattering (LIS) problem is known to be nonunique. In the present work the author investigates the implications with respect to system and spectral approximation. In particular, he considers LIS solutions which are scaled inner (g-inner) functions and shows that the corresponding spectral approximants are very special. Secondly, he shows how the nonuniqueness can be exploited to make the approximant satisfy additional constraints
