Abstract :
A microstrip transmission line loaded with complementary triangular split ring resonators (CTSRR) and slots is proposed to provide a left- handed transmission line. The fabricated configuration exhibits a left- handed pass band with double negative effective medium parameters. A design procedure based on binary genetic algorithm is developed to calculate the dimensions of the proposed structure. The structure is characterized for its dispersion diagram which shows left handed pass band from 4.4 GHz to 4.7 GHz. Effective medium parameters are extracted based on equivalent circuit concepts and measured scattering parameters. Double negative existence is confirmed from 4.5 GHz to 4.7 GHz from the measurement results which show negative permeability and negative permittivity from 4.4 GHz to 4.7 GHz.
