  • Abstract
    This paper analyses the methods and shortages of recent physical topology discovery, and proposes an algorithm based on SNMP. The algorithm proposes three concepts concerning ports of switch, in addition the way how to deal with unsure links caused by dump devices. The algorithm can accurately discover the links between switches including backup links, links between switch and host. The algorithm also has a good effect on discovering dump devices.
