Abstract
In order to achieve low cross-polarization, a dual mode conical horn antenna utilizes a conical horn which excites at the throat region, in addition to the dominant TE/sub 1/1 mode, the higher-order TM/sub 1/1 mode with an appropriate amplitude and phase. We show that the design and analysis of such a horn antenna becomes more accurate by using the generalized transmission equation which was derived by Schelkunoff (1952).
