Abstract
Arc tube bulbs for metal halide lamps are made from quartz glass. Generally, bulbs come in ellipsoidal or spherical shapes with both ends necked down. Quartz glass tubes are melted by flame heating and stockpiled, and then burned to shaped bulbs by means of clamping or roller finder method. After that, cleanse the surface of bulbs to remove silica powder, and separate out hydroxyls in a high-temperature vacuum furnace. Bulbs prepared in such a way can improve the quality of arc tubes and prolong the service life of arc tubes.
