Abstract :
In this paper, design of a wide coverage antenna for providing omni coverage in a satellite application is discussed. A hemispherical coverage is achieved by designing chokes around the circular open ended waveguide antenna. Dual circular polarization is obtained by incorporating septum polarizer in the antenna feed. Two such antennas are mounted on the spacecraft body, one on the earth viewing side and the other on the anti-earth viewing side, to provide almost 360° coverage. The design aspects of antenna elements and the system requirements to meet the mission objectives are discussed. The simulated results and measured results are presented. This antenna has flown in one of our recent spacecrafts and may also find application in many future ISRO missions.
