Abstract :
The authors summarise the design concepts used to achieve a satisfactory power supply system for the North Island main trunk railway, New Zealand, based upon only four 220/55 kV substations. They describe computer simulation models developed to predict the effects of the thyristor controlled locomotives and present the results of practical measurements made by New Zealand Railways in conjunction with Hawker Siddeley Rail Projects
