  • Abstract
Amongst the major electric power supply companies of Spain, UEF, a privately held company, is one of three distributors that service the Madrid-Capital area. In 1984 a Master Plan for the subtransmission network serving the UEF area of Madrid was completed to determine capacity requirements in existing substations, necessity for new ones, and the corresponding demand on the 220 and 132 kV supply systems up to the year 2000. The initial application of the Westinghouse CADPAD suite of computerized tools (for the planning and design of distribution systems) to the development of Urban Master Plans, enabled UEF to implement an integrated approach to the medium to long term planning of distribution networks. This was made possible due to powerful optimization routines designed to automatically analyse many combinations of substation and feeder network for its capital/loss performance
