Abstract
Summary form only given. In summary, we have shown that fiber-optic technology is expensive for the installation of mobile backbone infrastructures compared to twisted copper pair technology. However, taking OAM and bit-rate upgrades into account over the prospective network life-time, the fiberoptic technology becomes quite attractive.
