Abstract
The study extends the application of sparse matrix techniques, usually applied to packet network models, to the analysis of a mixed voice/data network, where simple methods such as the Erlang loss formula are not applicable. An investigation is carried out to obtain the optimum utilisation of the integrated switching system (ISS) resource for handling mixed voice/data services with variable bandwidth requirements whilst supporting three alternative switching algorithms
