Abstract
The network architecture considered is a fibre optical star network with per-node-per-channel structure (PNPC), i.e. the number of channels is equal to the number of nodes. With the PNPC structure users that require very large traffic throughput can be accommodated. The PNPC structure is compatible with wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). It is also favoured in optical subcarrier multiplexing (SCM). A multichannel bit-map multiple access protocol is proposed for use in PNPC environments. The proposed protocol assumes a frequency-agile transceiver at each node. The performance is examined and compared with other alternatives. The performance of a modified version is also analysed and simulated. The simulation result shows good agreement with the analysis
