Abstract :
From the MOLAND experience until the most recent developments in GSELand the Urban Atlas is much closer to become a reality after some years of discussion. Through all these projects developments a set of specifications have been consolidated and implemented as well as a taxonomy to classify the different land uses. The involvement of the different users has also been important to help define and better focus the specifications and the further use of the product. Finally some market success makes the link between a project and the market. This paper discusses on MOLAND (monitoring land use / cover dynamics) is a well known research project carried out at IES-land management and natural hazards unit of JRC to provide a spatial planning tool for assessing, monitoring and modelling the development of urban and regional environment.
