Abstract
Consideration is given to interface requirements for both development and use of expert diagnostic systems. Artificial intelligence (Al) techniques discussed include graphical representations, natural language understanding, English-Like Formalisms, and uncertainty reasoning. The argument is made for increased use of qualitative, as opposed to quantitative, representation of uncertainty in order to enhance user interactions
