Abstract
For spectral analysis the running Fourier transform filter bank outlined in this paper has zero phase distortion, and can be designed to have minimal; amplitude distortion with the aid of an `equivalent´ composite impulse response plot. Resolution, analysing bandwidth and filter roll-off are independently variable so as to minimise spectral leakage. For spectral analysis-synthesis, the location of the main pulse in the composite impulse response can be altered independently of the other parameters so as to minimise composite amplitude and phase ripple. It is also possible to optimally design filter banks with non-linear channel spacing and semi-variable analysing bandwidth
