Abstract
The aim of the Ulysses mission is to explore interplanetary space out of the ecliptic plane, over high solar (and ecliptic) latitudes which have been inaccessible to previous missions. The author describes the magnetometer on Ulysses whose aim is to measure the magnetic field vector along the orbit of the probe to provide data for deriving the three-dimensional structure of the magnetic field of the Sun, carried into interplanetary space by the solar wind. The complete instrument consists of two tri-axial magnetometer sensors, their associated analogue electronics, and a data processing unit
