Abstract :
Describes the Wedge and Strip Anode, a multi-electrode, planar readout used to determine the one or two dimensional position of the centroid of a charge cloud from a microchannel plate or gas filled proportional counter. Position readouts are categorised into two groups: those requiring solely the detection of charge on one or two out of many electrodes, and those where the ratio of charge deposited amongst several electrodes is a unique function of the charge cloud position. The wedge and strip anode belongs to the latter group which requires a measurement of the charge collected on each electrode. The charge cloud centroid coordinate is then calculated using a simple algorithm
