Discusses the experience gained from operating a multi-project wafer service for the prototyping and production of custom and semi-custom gate array over the last three years. In particular the technical and commercial factors influencing client decisions are reviewed with the aim of identifying those factors which should be considered by the first time user, and which may be helpful for the more experienced customer
